The Tripneustes ventricosus – the West Indian sea urchin – is the silent guardian of the tropical ocean. Like a cow on the seabed, it moves across seagrass meadows, consuming excess algae and thus maintaining the fragile balance of an entire habitat. What appears inconspicuous is of inestimable value. Its work keeps coral reefs healthy, provides food for fish, and ensures stability for the entire ecosystem. But this silent architect of the deep is threatened – by overfishing, the loss of its seagrass meadows, and a sea that is changing faster than it can adapt. A sea urchin, barely visible – and yet a guardian of the balance of life in the ocean.

Each Brandhoek work receives an original HAHNEMÜHLE certificate of authenticity and is additionally registered via VERISART, one of the leading international blockchain platforms for digital provenance.
