The southern white rhinoceros is considered the last stable rhinoceros population in Africa.
But even this species is under pressure – from poaching, habitat loss, and genetic impoverishment. Researchers are now working on artificial insemination methods to ensure the species' long-term survival. For the first time, they have succeeded in creating embryos in the laboratory and implanting them into surrogate mothers. What was once a symbol of untouched wilderness now depends on technology and precision medicine. Each of these animals could live up to fifty years – if left to its own devices.
His life is a silent reminder of the balancing act between rescue and intervention. Between wilderness and laboratory, the rhinoceros remains a monument to our responsibility.
